Almost time to leave… Not long before I am off into the wild blue yonder.
Hopefully the next post will be from London. If it’s from Bogotá then you know something has gone horribly wrong!

Last Friday I went to the optometrist to get a new pair of spectacles. I was duly examined by a guy who wrote a prescription for some stronger glasses for me. He was a little worried about the fact that I might be suffering from a condition known as ‘Narrow Angle Glaucoma’. This is not a nice thing to have. Apparently if it happens it make you really sick with vomiting, headaches and then you can loose your sight within 24 hours. So he referred me to an eye specialist.
Today I went and saw the specialist. After he stuck anesthetic drops in my eyes (have you ever had numb eyes?), he proceeded to stick suckery kind of things to my eyeballs, made me rest my chin and forehead on machine somewhat akin to a torture rack and shone bright lights deep into the vitreous humor of my optical organs. The result is that I now have sore eyes (hence the title of this post).
The other result is that I do not have the Narrow Angle Glaucoma or any other kind of Glaucoma (Mum did have the everyday kind – that’s why I was a bit worried). And to cap it all off, my corneas are 41 microns thicker than normal corneas! It makes me wonder, however, who came up with the idea of a cornea measurer in the first place.

All my accommodation is booked in the UK. A total of 28 different places to stay (that’s including the time staying with Cousin Christine and the stay in France). Car is all booked – not a rental but a lease for 85 days. I have bought assorted bits and pieces for the trip: clothes, mobile phone, memory card for camera, English Heritage membership etc, etc, etc. A new pair of spectacles have been ordered and should be ready next week.
Less than 3 weeks to go now and I am getting a tad excited about it all!
